Affordable High End Fashion

Many people think that cheap and high-end fashion does not fit in the same sentence, but they are wrong. There are many avenues to buy good quality, new or used designer clothes, purses and accessories. In recent years designer clothes have become available to a wider market. This helps the designer to gain more returns and the buyer to get some designer items at affordable prices.

find affordable fashion

Designers ensure that their products stay relevant to a wide market by creating specialty pieces that look expensive but are cheap. They create cheap designer clothes and cheap purses for every woman while still maintaining their more expensive lines for those who can afford it. Unfortunately, this is not a practice of all high-end designers. Some only cater for clients able to afford their high prices. There is however a way to get even those much coveted brands cheaply. Knowing when to shop and where to shop can fill a closet with cheap designer clothes and purses. Here are a few tips for getting high-end fashion at cheap prices.

Buy out of season

High end designers retail their new creations at very high prices. Buying these same creations one or two seasons later will result in the buyer paying a much cheaper price. Do this for designs that are not too trendy. A nice coat and leather pants for fall and winter and a little black dress are the most recommended items. These are not trendy and the buyer can use them for years without needing to change them.

Outlet stores

Outlet stores offer designer brands at low cost. These may not look as exquisite as their higher end versions, but they have the name and affordable price tags.

Vintage stores

More often than not, vintage stores offer no name clothing. There are however a few times when they offer one of a kind designer pieces. Because the store offers vintage clothes, they are more inclined to sell at cheaper prices but some may not. To ensure that the deal is a good one, shop around to see if cheaper prices exist.

Clothing exchange stores

These stores are known for great finds. They often have expensive, used designer clothes and purses at cheap rates. They buy used clothing items in good condition from their owners and retail them. Designer clothes in these stores go fast because they are so cheap. Try therefore, to visit them as often as possible to get the best deals.

Department stores

Designer’s partner with these stores to make cheaper versions of the clothes and bags featured in their high-end lines. Some designers even make affordable clothes exclusively for these stores that they do not feature as high-end expensive products.

Cheap designer purses and clothes are a thrill to find. They make the buyer feel as if they got a good deal on a great product. Follow the tips to find these items at the best prices and remember to shop around and never give up a bargain.

My Beauty Bunny Custom Lipstick

This is pretty darn cool! Jennifer From My Beauty Bunny, a cruelty free beauty blog, worked up her own custom shade of lipstick in collaboration with Three Custom Color Specialists, a rather neat company that can make custom shades for you. The aim with this lipstick was to come up with a color that would work on many different skin tones. The shade is a lovely muted orange/coral, which you can see swatched on my hand below. Three Custom Color makes great lipsticks that have a nice texture and wear well, so you can’t really go wrong with this one!

Tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner Swatch and Review

I got a Tokidoki Perfetto eyeliner in my Tokidoki sodashop palette (link is to review and swatches on Beauty and Fashion Tech). I originally got the palette, and hence the liner, because I am a big Tokidoki fan. But it turns out that there is some quality makeup behind the Tokidoki items.

Tokidoki Perfetto Eye Liner

The Perfetto liner is a soft pen type of liner that can draw lines from thick to thin and that is incredibly pigmented and nicely waterproof. Yet, removal was a breeze with my favorite eye makeup remover, Lancome bi-Facial. (Also read why Bi-Facil is the best eye makeup remover ever)

Here is a swatch of my Tokidoki Perfetto liner in Carina:

The liners come in variety of shades and each features a different Tokidoki character.

MAC Art Of Powders Swatches and Review

The MAC Art of Powders Collection consists of three pretty powder compacts, a highlighter, a bronzer, and an eye shadow. I always like looking at art compacts such as these, and it feels almost wrong messing them up by using them. Swatches of the highlighter and bronzer really didn’t show up well for me. I did, however, swatch the eye shadow and have a photo here.  The highlighter is a soft light pink and a press photo is shown below.

MAC Art of Powders Highlighter

Next is a photo of the bronzer. It comes out as a light bronze despite how much pink is in the compact, but I don’t know what will happen as the top bronze shade wears down some so that more pink is picked up.

MAC Art of Powders Optical Bronzer

The Art of Powders eye shadow is a really pretty one. The shades are very luminous.

Art of Powders Street Art Eye Shadow

Here are the MAC Art of Powders swatches from sections of the eye shadow and of a mix across all of the shades. The mix is the first shade on the left and it came out pinker than I expected. It is difficult to get individual shades from the compact since each is rather small, but I managed to get some of them. In reality, I tend to think of these things more as collector items than as daily use items.

MAC Art of Powders Swatches

Art of Powders will be on the shelves on September 29, 2011.

MAC Posh Paradise Lipstick Swatches

Coming in September from MAC is the Posh Paradise Collection with new paint pots, mattene lipsticks and nail polishes. Here are Posh Paradise lipstick swatches of three shades from the collection. The lipsticks are semi-matte and come in slimline cases. They have a good amount of pigment and feel smooth and moisturizing. Overall, I really like the consistency of them and I got good wear in my test of one.

Swatches are of the following shades:  Eden Rouge, Delectable, and Legendary.  You can see indoor photos of the same swatches at our sister site, Beauty and Fashion Tech and I put up a separate post here with outdoor swatches of a few of the paint pots from the collection.

MAC Posh Paradise Paint Pot Swatches and Review

The MAC Posh Paradise Collection includes a set of new paint pots. MAC paint pots are a thicker cream eye shadow that has a smooth texture and very long wear. Set with a bit of powder and you can get full day and evening coverage with no fading or creasing. I do love those paint pots, so I also love getting new shades of them! One word of warning, I have had paint pots dry out if I didn’t get the cap put back on nice and tight, so always tighten up the caps on these!!!

Here are MAC Paint Pot swatches in the following shades: Genuine Treasure, Idyllic, Nubile, and Pure Creation. I posted indoor photos of these on our sister site, Beauty and Fashion Tech. If you want additional views of them, you can see that post here: MAC Posh Paradise Swatches.I really love both Idyllic, which I do not think particularly matches MAC’s written description (“mid-tone copper bronze”) and Pure Creation, which is a gorgeous shimmering blue. I don’t tend to wear bright colors in eye shadow, but I sure do love looking at that shade!

MAC Posh Paradise Paint Pot Swatches

The Posh Paradise collection will hit the shelves on September 15, 2011 and sometimes you can find the collections online a few days early. It is limited edition, so grab anything that want quickly!

Guest Post: Everything You Should Know About Makeup

Using make up as a cover up or a mask is a common misconception for many women when buying make up.  In all reality, make up should never be used to cover or hide your face.  Instead, it should be used to highlight and accentuate a woman’s natural features.  Many make up companies out there have created various products that are made specifically to encourage bringing to light your own, natural appearance from head to toe.  Listed below are different products ranging from eye-make up to nail polish and how exactly they help bring out your natural beauty.

Makeup face chart

Natural looking, healthy hair is at the top of the list.  Whether your hair is long, short, thin, or thick, you always want it to look and be healthy.  Heat is one of the main opponents when it comes to hair, for example, straightening, blow-drying, curling, crimping, etc. are all horrible and damaging to your hair. However, those products are also offered with heat control to help put a limit to the amount of heat you are using to kill your hair.  Also, companies such as Pantene Pro-V, L’Oreal, and many others create shampoos, conditioners, and styling products that help to nurture your hair and keep it healthy. See, these products contain vitamins and nutrients that your hair follicles will absorb.  The vitamins and nutrients in turn will mend and heal your hair the best that they can.  Even when it comes to coloring and dying your hair at home, L’Oreal is a great way to go.  L’Oreal, as well as other brands have created dyes and colors that don’t contain ammonia, which plays a great role in hair killing.  Be sure to stay away from products containing ammonia and when it comes down to it, try to avoid using extreme heat on your hair.

Nails and nail polish aren’t normally the first things that come to mind when you think of natural beauty.  However, there are nail polishes and nail polish removers that are better for your nails than others.  OPI, for example, in 2006 eliminated the DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde from their polishes and treatments.  OPI isn’t the only brand like this, the key is looking around and reading the ingredients to find out what is best for you.

Lipstick and lip balm, for the most part, go hand in hand.  Either way, you will want something that will keep your lips moist and supple, something that will last for longer than an hour, and something that will make your lips pop, but not too much.  Lipsticks that are long lasting contain an ingredient called kaolin, this tends to cause the lipsticks to be drying but it gives it the staying control that you are looking for.  Moisturizing lipsticks contain many ingredients like shea butter that will cause them to wash away more quickly.  Maybelline, as well as a few other brands, came out with a product that provides both the long lasting effect, as well as the moisturizing effect.  Now, when it comes to color it all depends on your skin tone. There are plenty of directories and beauty consultants that can explain what you should do, but basically, if you have fair skin you should stay away from bright pink and orange shades.  Stick to deep, plum reds and wine reds, even light to medium brown will flatter your skin.  Dark skin is almost the same; dark, wine colors and deep, plum colors, along with any shade of brown will accentuate your lips.  Medium skin tones, on the other hand, should stay away from browns that are on the pale side.  As for olive or yellow skin tones choose deep, brown reds and deep, berry shades but avoid the pinkish colors.

Blush and cover up are somewhat similar to lipstick.  For blush, you want something that will accent your cheekbones, nothing too dark, because you’ll look fake and nothing to light, because you’ll look like a porcelain doll.   Cover up is the most commonly misused product and it is extremely important.  If you use too much it will literally look like you put cake on your face.  Cover up can be used to hide facial blemishes and acne, as well as to even out the tones of your face.  Again, just like blush, cover up depends on your skin tone.  Mineral make up is one of the best kinds of blush/cover up to use.  This specific product makes it easy to blend make up together to match your skin tone, all the while it is made of minerals and nutrients that will keep your face looking healthy.

Eye make up consists of mascara, eyeliner, and eye shadow, all in various forms.  After cover up, this is the next most commonly misused make up product.  Many people use way too much eyeliner and eye shadow, normally they are trying to create the dramatic look, however, it ends up looking like they got attacked with the make up instead.  Almay is the number one brand that comes to mind when talking about eye make up.  The company created the perfect product.  With a kit for almost every eye color, Almay provides eye shadow, eyeliner, and mascara that will do everything and help accentuate your eye color.  Whether you have brown eyes, blue eyes, or green eyes, Almay has the trick for you.  Of course, Almay is not the only brand that offers products like this, but it is always the first that comes to mind.  Mascara is pretty simple and there are all sorts of colors, it just depends on which you prefer.  Brands such as, Revlon and Almay provide a lash-growing mascara that contains nutrient and vitamins that make your eyelashes grow long and beautiful.  Eye make up can get kind of crazy, so you just have to keep in mind that you are only trying to accent your, already, beautiful eyes.

With all that said, make up is supposed to be fun.  Listed above are just guidelines to helping you highlight your natural beauty.  Everyone is beautiful and sometimes all you need is a little bit of make up to emphasize it.

A History Of Sunglasses

Despite what you might think, sunglasses have been around in some shape or form for thousands of years, although they often didn’t have the same use as we know today. In the consumer driven world of the 21st century, sunglasses have become a huge global market worth billions every year. There are hundreds of brands and thousands of different styles available today, from bargain basement models costing £1 or less to the luxury end where they can cost thousands. In fact, luxury car manufacturer has recently released a special limited range in association with Austrian manufacturer Estede, of which the platinum version is set to cost $15,000! But where did it all begin?

Fotolia_28825589_Subscription_XXL

The first evidence of anything like what we would know as sunglasses comes from the prehistoric Inuit people. Living in the arctic they had to deal with huge amounts of reflected sunlight and glare from the snow. To combat this they carved deer antler into goggles complete with horizontal slits to see out of. This reduced much of the glare whilst still giving excellent vision.

There are various other mentions of lenses and vision throughout history, including emperor Nero who is said to have liked to watch gladiator fights through emeralds, but it isn’t until around the 12th century when they appear fully documented. In ancient China, judges used thin polished discs of grey quartz as lenses when questioning witnesses in court. They were used to hide the facial expressions of the judge rather than shield his eyes from the sun, but they would have looked remarkably like sunglasses designs of hundreds of years later.

Through the 18th century, British optician James Ayscough experimented with green and blue tinted lenses, but again this wasn’t for the purpose of shielding eyes from UV or looking cool. He believed that different tints could help specific eye disorders, but sadly his work never really went anywhere. In 1929 Sam Foster designed the first pair of sunglasses that protected your eyes from UV rays. He made a fortune by selling them on the beaches of Atlantic City, and went on to form the huge eyewear company Foster Grant.

It wasn’t until 1936 that the first iconic pair of sunglasses was produced, by Bausch and Lomb subsidiary Ray Ban. Employed by the US military to design a pair of glasses for pilots to protect their eyes at high altitude, the shape and classic green tint were brought about by the need for full UV protection. They were given the added bonus of polarising technology with the help of Edwin Land the next year and put on general sale soon afterwards. They proved a huge hit, and put Ray Ban on the map.

They went on to produce the next most famous design in 1956 with the Wayfarers. They employed revolutionary manufacturing techniques along with new plastic materials to give chunkier yet lightweight frames. They were the first pair of sunglasses not to have wire frames, and the elegantly peaked design became an instant classic.
Since then the sunglasses market has proliferated hugely, and today designs move alongside fashion. There is a wider choice than ever, but will we ever see classic designs like those of the 30?s and 50?s again, or will they simply be lost in the huge volume of glasses that are turned out each year?

Cruelty Free Cosmetics

Did you know the FDA does NOT require animal testing for cosmetics? Buying cosmetics that are tested on animals supports a cruel and unnecessary industry that subjects millions of animals to pain, torture and death. Most big cosmetic companies choose to use animal testing in fear of litigation and also under pressure from huge research companies.

What are other reasons Vapour Organic Beauty never uses animal testing?

• Animal testing is inherently inaccurate—animal systems and human systems are not comparable. Even within the animal family species are so individualized that mice often respond differently from rats in experiments.

• The testing industry is largely unregulated as over 90% of the animals used in testing are excluded from the Animal Welfare Act (AWA), the only federal law which oversees animal testing.

• Animal testing inflicts pain and suffering to intelligent creatures as a rule, not an exception. Force-fed, locked down, eyes forced open, no anesthesia: we pay the industry to do this when we buy animal-tested cosmetics.

Yuck. We buy these products to make us feel good, even beautiful. Why would we buy them knowing the ugly path the product has taken to end up in our purse? Vapour Organic Beauty does not test on animals. Nor are any of the raw ingredients in Vapour tested on animals. Our products are tested on real human beings. Become cruelty free by buying cruelty free.

Vapour is a member of the Leaping Bunny Program, an internationally recognized organization that promotes a standardized “Cruelty Free” policy.

2011 Fall Fashion

The air is changing, the kids are back in school, and mother nature has started to show her turning colors, all of which has the chic shopper looking for this year’s fall fashion trends. Regardless of your style, the 2011 fall fashion trends have something for everyone. From leather and faux fur to silver and gold, this season’s trends are overflowing with comfort, luxurious colors, and super hot style!

Fall Fashion 2011 Leather

Leather is a must have this fall with great new colors in olive, mustard, and muted brown. Although expensive, leather is an investment that will pay off over time because it is so versatile. Take a hint from various celebrities who are matching the classic black motorcycle jacket with neutral cream or beige for a dramatic look that takes casual to a higher level. Another hot clothing item for fall is faux fur. Pamper yourself with the soft feel of a collared vest or some comfy new clogs that showcase this fun, furry detail. corduroy, tulle, satin, and lace will also be making an appearance in the 2011 fall fashion lineup.

Fall Fashion colors

Deep cherry, dark green, and sheer neutrals are moving from the runway rack to a clothes rack near you. Show them off with silver and gold accessories, but remember less is more. Concentrate on one or two pieces that make a statement. Also, coffee, cream, olive, and auburn will be a part of the color palette used for painting autumn in 2011.
The Retro feel is popular this year with flashbacks to the 60?s and 70?s. Opposites attract, so mix a funky printed scarf with a solid colored dress that has simple lines. To complete the look, add a pair of knee high boots. Speaking of shoes, boots, clogs, and mules are going to be stepping out this fall in traditional browns and blacks. Whether it is with a comfortable pair of jeans, a dress, or a pantsuit, these shoe styles will rock out any great fall ensemble.

fashion for fall 2011

Overall, the newest 2011 fall fashion trends give everyone something to talk about. Among the choices are skinny pants, belts, tights, capes (yes, capes!), ponchos, and much more. Fashionable looks will include a-symmetrical sweaters mixed with skinny pants, leather dresses matched with bold baubles, and feminine prints paired with delicate silver. Mixing textures and patterns may be a little too bold for some savvy shoppers, but you can acquire this chic look with small steps. Start with a key piece to plan your outfit around, or take advantage of how many designers have already mixed the different prints in an outfit for you. Whether your style is softly muted, boldly functional, or brashly eclectic, this years fall fashions are sure to have something in-store for you!

4 Fashion Tips for Getting Ready for College

Going to college is an exciting time, but it can also be nerve-racking when you are trying to decide on what to wear.  But if you want to be fashionable for those first days of classes, you need to focus on more than just what you will wear.  After all, fashion also includes your hair, accessories, and even nail polish.  Here are some helpful tips for getting into fashion mode while getting your higher education.

college student style

This doesn’t mean everything needs to be matchy-matchy.  In fact, you will be better off if you try to get a little creative with your colors and try to blend opposites together.  The best way to figure out what colors you should wear is to look at your skin tone, hair color, and even eye color and get inspired by the palette that is you.  Some colors will just look great on you while others are rather dismal.  It’s ok to have a trademark color palette that you wear, so don’t be afraid to embrace the inspiration of color.

If you just want to fit in with everyone else, then you probably are not the most fashionable person in the world.  Don’t be afraid to wear things that help to define you as a person.  Embrace your personality and try to mimic that with the styles that you wear.  Try to pick a certain fashion design and if you love it, stick with it and try alternate ideas of that same style.  It’s great to be comfortable enough in your own skin that you can wear clothing and accessories that are uniquely yours.

Every time you see a style in a magazine or TV commercial try to find a picture of that style and put it into a notebook.  There is a reason you loved that style, but it doesn’t mean you have to use it exactly as it was pictured.  You are simply using this for inspiration to create your own look.  Study why you love that look and see what you can do to make it better.  Any fashion design can be made better, so make it your goal to improve on it and make it more personal with your added touches.  You will be busy in college studying for all your classes, but you have to admit that this kind of study is a lot more fun.

We all come in different shapes and sizes, and even if you are not completely satisfied with the shape of your body, don’t shy away from using it to inspire your fashion as well.  Use your best features to inspire your wardrobe and use your shape to highlight these areas.  It’s important to be positive about how you look and have confidence in it.  Let your style reflect that confidence.

This is a guest post from Carly Greaves who writes about Cheap Designer Clothes and Cheap Purses.
