Safety of Mineral Makeup

Healthy, glowing skin is the result of many factors, including the quality of the products you use daily. Imagine putting sticky black coal tar on your face – you would never do it! But coal tar, a by-product of steel production, is an FD&C coloring ingredient used in many cosmetics. There’s absolutely nothing good to say about this ingredient. Coal tars contain benzene and phenols, known carcinogens. Also, in steel production, coal tar residues pollute our air.

However bad coal tar is, its use in cosmetics has been "grandfathered" in, due to irregularities in the FDA regulations. And companies that use coal tar can mislead consumers by saying it’s safe. Many companies label their FD&C colored children's products as “non-toxic.”

Vapour Organic Beauty does not use potentially hazardous, lab-created FD&C or Lake colorants. Our color comes from ancient, natural mineral pigments, such as iron oxide, which comes from the earth and has been used as a colorant since prehistoric times. Thanks to archeology, we now know that early humans used mineral pigments for paint and body decoration.

And our minerals look gorgeous on you! Unlike mineral powder makeup that collects in lines & pores, our minerals are suspended in an organic base that maintains integrity of coverage and enhances natural beauty.

Check out Atmosphere Luminous Foundation and Atmosphere Soft Focus Foundation, two products you can feel great about using on your skin.
